Chapter 31: There’s something I want you to find: where I belong.

Mymud lunges at me and swiftly kicks me in the chest, sending me flying against the concrete wall.

“Agh,” I mutter, getting off the ground.

My charger and games levitate in the air. “These trinkets are not part of my purpose. Shall I destroy them? Shall I destroy them, Creator?”

Kanti doesn’t respond.

“Whoa! Whoa! Just put them down then. Put them wherever you want, I promise I won’t attack you when you do.  Just don’t break my stuff. It’ll destroy me!” I yell in Kanti’s place.

“I apologize for my inability to deviate from my purpose.”

My games, the zip-lock bag and my charger dissolve into black mist. The debris falls to the ground, piling up like ashes.

“Did I fulfill my raison d’etre, Creator? Can I cease to be another’s object?” Mymud asks robotically.

We pause. Mymud’s god does not respond.

This is awkward. “Mymud,” I quickly insert. “I’m actually pretty impressed you were able to do that. You know, what would really destroy me is if you put my things back together.”

“Why must you mock my existence? I did not choose to be. The destruction of your trinkets was of little importance to you, as my annihilation will be to my god.”

Damn… I rub my face. “I’m sorry.”

“I too apologize for my inability to deviate from my purpose. Your belongings will be reassembled upon my defeat, as my apology to them, for I too am nothing more than a mere trinket to be discarded.”

“I wish I could say otherwise, but at this point, we might as well get it over with.” That’s easier said than done. “How do I fight you, since you’re made out of pure energy?”

“I do not know.” Mymud grabs the collar of the cloak and yanks me into his elbow.
