Chapter 60: Darunia’s melancholy.

The snow, metahuman charges at me.

“It does not possess the ability to speak or think. It is energy I am controlling. In relation to Mymud, this creature pales in comparison. It cannot manipulate its own energy; however, its physical body is kept intact by its astral body. You will not be able to banish it unless you can break the physical shell,” Kanti says. Kanti’s purple haze appears beneath him as he hovers a few feet above the ground.

The snowman leaps over me and belly flops.

“Yeah right!” I warp from underneath its body and chuck a snowball at its head. “Crap!” The snow merges with the Snowman’s head. “I should’ve known.”

“One does not fight fire with fire.”

“I know!” I yell evading the snowman. I slide as it charges at me again. “Hiya!” I kick the Snowman, but nothing happens. “Kanti, what gives? This is cheap! How strong can a body of snow be?” I punch the snowman, using the crystal to warp around it and strike. The snow doesn’t flake off!

“It’s held together by energy. You cannot fight streaming water with your bare hands, and you certainly cannot fight energy with raw power. Use your imagination, Young Emery. You can defeat this enemy. All that is required is the removal of the protective snow.” Kanti hovers over the trees. His purple haze looks like a lavender cloud. From here, it’s as though he’s touching the sky.

Wait, astral energy! That’s it! I focus the crystal on the snowman’s presence. If I can just warp the snow somewhere else! I wave my hands. I feel the snowman’s energy and compress its legs together.

It collapses.

I pounce over its body.

Light traces the snowman’s body, and the snow vanishes, revealing a light blue humanoid mass of energy.

I reach for any part of it I can grab and trace it with the cloak’s energy.

Kanti warps beside me when his energy vanishes. “Success,” he says proudly. “Use my energy crystal and move all of the snow. It does not matter where; the goal is merely to free Eliza’s entire backyard of snow.” Kanti smiles. Snowballs launch themselves at me from the ground. “If you are hit by one of these snowballs, you will restart. I will replace all that you can move.”

“That isn’t even a challenge.” I go astral. Snowballs from every direction merge with each other until covering my entire astral body. I focus on the snow’s presence and trace the connection between every snowflake. “Here,” I say as all of the snow in Eliza’s backyard vanishes. “I moved it into the woods, by the way. In case you were wondering.”

Kanti smiles. “I know, Young Emery,” he says. “I suppose we can conclude for now.”
